Ephemera: 1927 Dance cards

$45

1920’s Edwardian Dance Cards:

What fun! 10 blank cardboard Dance Cards from June 11, 1927, of the “Philomathean Club”, initials “JSM” printed in blue, with blue pencils attached by light blue cords. Each card is 2 ¼” x 5 ½” and has room for 14 engagements. They all have various degrees of foxing as is to be expected with their age.

With a little research I found that the club was located in Stockton, California, see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philomathean_Clubhouse.  The women’s club was founded in 1893 as a reading club and built its own clubhouse in 1911/1912. The term philomath refers to "a lover of learning.”

$45 for all, as is, as found
