“Map of the Southwest” embroidery sampler SOLD

Here we are offering a marvelous vintage, framed, under-glass, hand-embroidered “Map of the Southwest” sampler.  It comprises the states of Arizona, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Texas, Louisiana, and Mexico, and the Gulf of Mexico, along with a windrose and major waterways, and the edge of the Pacific Ocean.  The embroidery is on a natural linen ground and is very accomplished. What a lovely example of the art of map samplers. It is not dated, but many of this type were done in the 1930s and 1940s and we suspect it is from one of those decades. This is a pre-owned item and the frame shows some wear and the backing has come off in parts. We can ship this in its original frame or, if you prefer, we can take out of the frame and just ship the artwork.
